SBD International Airport and the Holland International Distribution Council Sign Memorandum of Understanding Advancing International Trade

A Strategic Alliance for the Development of International Trade

(June 2, 2020 – San Bernardino, CA) SBD International Airport (SBD) announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Holland International Distribution Council (HIDC). By connecting a burgeoning air cargo hub in the heart of Southern California with one of the largest cargo centers in Europe, this strategic alliance is intended to promote supply chain development, facilitate introductions to potential partners and clients, and promote both organizations as strategic partners in their respective markets. The MOU, which was signed on May 27, 2020, will be reevaluated every two years.

HIDC is a private, non-profit organization based in the Netherlands that provides matchmaking services for supply chain partnerships in Europe. SBD has emerged as a leader in public-private partnerships focused on transportation, aerospace, and industrial development programs, including the active development of a 100-acre air cargo hub scheduled to open in Q4 2020.

244 million consumers live within 1,000 kilometers of the Netherlands’ ports and the country takes a constructive approach to trade, creating the optimal climate to move goods through the European supply chain. The country consistently ranks in the top ten on the World Bank Logistics Performance Index due to its favorable location in the heart of Europe and its sound infrastructure that includes the Port of Rotterdam, the Port of Amsterdam, and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Additionally, the Netherlands boasts a sophisticated logistics sector with specialized service providers, a competitive business environment, and a highly trained English-speaking workforce.

“For centuries, the Netherlands has pioneered leadership in logistics. The efficiency and effectiveness of its Customs and import/export procedures, the quality of its transport and IT infrastructure, the ease of use and affordability of its shipping, and the caliber of professionalism in the Dutch logistics industry makes HIDC a critical partner for SBD International Airport,” says Michael Burrows, Executive Director of the Inland Valley Development Agency and San Bernardino International Airport Authority.

“This alliance provides access and expertise for our members allowing us to benefit from best practices and international business opportunities, whether in airfreight-related logistics activities, regional warehousing and (e-commerce) fulfillment operations, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), spare parts logistics, manufacturing, training facilities, or services,” says Remco Buurman, CEO of the Holland International Distribution Council. “Strengthening the cooperation between our organizations will benefit businesses, networks, and partners on both sides of the globe—and together, our economies will grow.”
